ALL ABOUT APRIL BARTON + SUITE 303

With a Memoir Acquired by HarperCollins, Celebrity Stylist April Barton of Suite 303 is Celebrating 30 Years Strong

An exclusive look into the salon that shaped the culture of cutting hair in NYC for the past 30 years, and the force behind it all...

Originally launched in 1995 inside the legendary Chelsea Hotel, this fall marks three decades of Suite 303. Barton transformed a corner suite into a creative sanctuary and continues to lead her salon today on Bond Street in Noho — a place where artistry, community, and transformation meet.

She has single-handedly redefined what a salon can be: a place where creativity, performance, and culture intersect. Her clients span actors, writers, musicians, and artists.

“It’s like stopping by to see a friend and walking out with great hair.”
- Actor Matthew Modine

It's more than just a salon, it's a cultural landmark.

For Over 30 Years, April Barton has...

  • Styled legends, icons, and downtown originals

  • Built a fiercely loyal clientele spanning generations

  • Maintained independence in a trend-driven industry

  • Run a business with soul, substance, and zero sellout

Suite 303 has long doubled as a living gallery. Artists including René Ricard, Leo Villareal, Matthew Ritchie, Robert Lambert, and Kiki Smith have exhibited work in the salon, creating a space that blurs the boundaries between art, hair, and social ritual.

“April’s story is one of those truth-is-stranger-than-fiction tales,” says her editor Carrie Thornton. And her agent Bill Clegg adds, “It’s a beautiful story about surviving family, addiction, trauma, and ourselves… and still fighting for light, even when there is none. It’s a knock-out.”
